Watching movies has become one of the most exciting entertainment lately, especially with the latest films coming out that are certainly anticipated every year. As if it has become a lifestyle, watching movies in the cinema certainly provides a different experience compared to watching on other platforms.

Surely all of you have watched in the cinema too, which gives an exciting experience along with friends or family.

But do you know which citizens of which country like to go to the movies the most? According to The Economist, here are some of the countries with the most people who like to go to the movies

1.    United States

Let’s start with United States. It is one of the countries with a population that loves going to the movies. The US citizens that go to the cinema are as many as 3.5 visits per person. 

In terms of age group, the population that mostly goes to the cinema is dominated by young adult population with an age range between 25-30 years. But visits to the cinema had decreased in 2017 compared to previous years.

2.    Australia

Australia is one of the countries with residents who like to go to the cinema, where there are 3.7 visits per person. As well as being the country with the most population watching movies in theaters in one Oceania region, beating neighbouring country New Zealand.

While the population of the population visiting the cinema is dominated by adolescents between 15-17 years and residents aged 35-44 years. However, the number of cinema visits in Australia has fluctuated and continues to strengthen from year to year.

3.    Singapore

Then there is Singapore which is perched at the third position with the most people going to the cinema. Singapore has an average of 3.9 cinema visits in 2017 and is the highest in the Southeast Asian region.

But more and more the interest of Singaporeans to go to the cinema has actually declined due to other entertainment that can rival widescreen movies, such as Netflix and other video streaming.

4.    Iceland

Next is the Nordic country, Iceland which is one of the countries with the most people who like to go to the movies. Every Iceland resident has 4.3 visits to the cinema in 2017. It is the highest in Europe beating Ireland and France.

Films that are widely watched in Iceland mostly come from the United States or the Hollywood which reached 90 percent. Scandinavian or Nordic films are only 3-7 percent, while domestic films are only 2 percent.

5.    South Korea

South Korea is the country with the highest cinema visits in the world. The average visit of Korean people to the cinema reaches 4.3 the same visit with Iceland in 2017.

The lifestyle of Korean people is indeed close to film entertainment, which makes them often visit the cinema. The number of visits to the cinema from year to year is also increasing, which reached 225 million people in 2019, an increase of 5 million compared to 2017.

Meanwhile films that are screened in Korean cinemas are dominated by 50.4 percent domestic films and the rest are Hollywood or other foreign films.
